All our range of Ring 'Smart' battery chargers/maintainers are fully automatic, i.e they do not require supervised battery charging, and are suitable for permanent connection. They will also charge most types of lead-acid batteries.

All our automatic battery chargers have self re-setting protection against incorrect battery connection. Please look at individual battery charger specs for more features.

Information on how to select the correct battery charger for your requirements.

What's the difference between a basic battery charger, a standard battery charger and a smart battery charger?

The 'Ring Basic' range of 12 volt battery chargers are suitable for lead-acid batteries (not Gel), have LED display to show charge progress, but will require supervised charging, i.e. they are not automatic.

The 'Ring Standard' range of 6 & 12 volt battery chargers are suitable for most types of lead-acid batteries incuding Gel. All have LED display to show charge progress, are fully automatic (suitable for permanent connection) and have fast/slow charge selection. Typically battery chargers that are suitable for permanent connection will start in bulk charge mode, then switch to final charge mode until the battery voltage reaches around 14.8 volts. The charger will then switch to float charge thus maintaining the battery voltage at around 13.2 - 13.6 volts so that is always ready for use.

The 'Ring Smart Charger' range have all the features of the standard range, but with the additional features below:

  • Battery re-conditioning - can recondition or revive your battery from a deeply discharged condition
  • Rapid charge override - multiple fast charge settings allows you to be up and running quicker
  • Remote battery check - checks the condition of your battery without the need for mains power
  • Charges Gel, SLA, AGM and Calcium batteries
  • LED display 3 stage, fully automatic battery charging

Why do I need a battery charger?

Well, for the obvious fact that you may encounter a flat battery problem at some point. But, also a the 'Ring Standard' and 'Ring Smart Charger' battery chargers can come in useful for maintaining batteries that may be left idle for long periods in optimum condition and avoid battery 'sulphation' which can ruin a lead-acid battery.
